Ladislav Mrazović

Ladislav Mrazović (born August 20, 1849 in Zagreb ; † August 30, 1881 there ) was a Croatian writer and publicist .

Life

Ladislav Mrazović was the son of the lawyer, politician, writer and publicist Matija Mrazović (1824-1896) and his wife Barbara (1822-1905) in Zagreb, the capital of the Kingdom of Croatia and Slavonia in the Hungarian part of what was then the dual monarchy . When he was four years old, his sister Stanka (1853–1934), called Nonica , later wife of bank director Franjo “Frane” Šverljuga (1844–1921), was born. According to the general education in his hometown, he studied at the University of Zagreb (1866), Prague (1867) and Vienna (1868; with Professors Joseph Unger and Lorenz von Stein ) jurisprudence . He completed his studies in 1870 with the Dr. jur. from. He then did his military service and fell ill with tuberculosis during this time . During a stay in Italy he devoted himself to studying art. From 1876 he served the Croatian-Slavonian government in Zagreb as a trainee .

Parallel to these activities, Mrazović wrote novellas, sketches, treatises on arts and crafts, literary and theater reviews, as well as travelogues from Croatia, Dalmatia , Carniola and Italy, which in turn were printed in various newspapers and magazines. Some of his works appeared in the Vienac ( German : Kranz ), in the Obzor (German: Rundschau ) or in the parliamentarian newspaper . Furthermore, Mrazović was secretary of the literary society Matica hrvatska , which among other things published the Vienac newspaper , and a member of the theater committee of the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb . Like his brother-in-law Franjo Šverljuga, Mrazović also owned shares in the Zagreb printing company Dionička .

Ladislav Mrazović, who was considered talented and highly educated, died ten days after his 32nd birthday in his hometown of Zagreb of complications from tuberculosis. Before that he had tried in vain to recover from the illness in Switzerland and Silesia . He was also listed as a spa guest in the spa town of Bad Gleichenberg in 1874, 1875 and 1876. He was buried in the Mirogoj Cemetery , the central cemetery of Zagreb. Both the parents and the sister and her family were later buried in the same grave.
