Lagunillas is a town in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Lagunillas is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Lagunillas in the province of Cordillera . The village is located at an altitude of 917 m in a right side valley of the Río Ñancahuazú , which drains to the Río Grande .

Lagunillas is in the area of the tropical climate, the six-month wet season extends from November to April and the dry season from May to October.
The annual average temperature is 23 ° C, with 17 to 18 ° C from June to July and over 26 ° C from November to December (see Camiri climate diagram). The annual precipitation is almost 900 mm, the wettest months are December and January with 175 mm and the driest months July and August with almost 10 mm.
history
In 1780, a post was established in the Lagunillas region by the colonial administration to promote the settlement of Creole ranchers. On April 24, 1855, Lagunillas was officially founded and in 1864 received the status of the capital of the Cordillera Province.
The community gained a certain degree of notoriety in the 20th century when the revolutionary Che Guevara began guerrilla activity here at the end of 1966 and set up a base camp near a northern settlement on the Río Ñancahuazú .
Transport network
Lagunillas is located at a distance of 277 kilometers by road south of Santa Cruz , the capital of the department of the same name.
From Santa Cruz, the paved road Ruta 9 leads south via Cabezas and Ipitá to the junction of Ruta 6 near the town of Ipati , 32 kilometers north of Camiri . From Ipati, the route 6 leads northwest and after 22 kilometers reaches Lagunillas .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Guaraní population, in the Municipio Lagunillas 52.8 percent of the population speak the Guaraní language .
