action

A young woman wakes up in a coffin and is able to free herself from it. Since the doors of the funeral home she is in are locked, she tries to call the police over the phone. When the elderly owner of the funeral home appears, he is slit open by a man wearing a silver skull mask. The young woman manages to escape the killer named Chromeskull. She lets Tucker, a passing man, take her away and finds shelter with him and his wife Cindy. Cindy is not very enthusiastic about it at first, as the amnesiac stranger could be a prostitute. She wants to alert the police, but Tucker and Cindy no longer have a telephone connection and there is not enough gas to bring them to the police station. While Cindy sleeps in the bedroom, Tucker looks at a wound on the back of the young woman's head. When he is about to go to sleep, he discovers Cindy being held by Chromeskull's window. Tucker and the woman have to watch helplessly as Chromeskull rams a knife into Cindy’s head before they drive away in Tucker's car, dismayed.

Shortly thereafter, Cindy's brother Johnny arrives with his girlfriend Jamie in front of his sister's house. Chromeskull lies in wait for them and takes them down with his knife. Tucker and his young companion stop in front of a house and ask Steven, the owner, to alert the police. Steven doesn't have a phone either, but he does have a computer that he uses to email the police. He also finds out via the Internet that Chromeskull is a wanted serial killer who always films his murders with a video camera on his shoulder and then sends the videos to the police. The three of them drive to the police station in Stevens' car. Chromeskull, who murdered the sheriff and another policeman, sets a trap for them there. However, you can escape and then drive past the funeral home. Hoping to find clues to her past there, the young woman goes into the building. Steven is supposed to take care of her there while Tucker drives back to his house to take Cindy's corpse away from the window and into the house so that her brother, who wanted to visit them the next morning, spares the sight of Cindy's corpse. However, Cindy's body is no longer there.

From the funeral home, the young woman discovers Chromeskull in front of a barn. Together with Steven, she approaches the killer and watches him. Chromeskull finally becomes aware of her and the young woman tries to hide in the barn. There she discovers female corpses dismembered in numerous coffins. A tied girl is still alive and the young woman tries to cut her loose with a knife. When Chromeskull approaches, the young woman runs away in panic. However, there is no exit. Meanwhile, Chromeskull is cutting off the girl's head. Then he gives the young woman an injection. This comes to itself trapped in a coffin. Meanwhile, Tucker has returned with a revolver and arrives with Steven in the barn, shoots the killer and frees the young woman from the coffin. They drive together to Steven's house in the killer's car. Once there, they find Cindy's body in the trunk. Tucker asks Steven to bring his wife's body into the house. Meanwhile, the young woman tries to find out who she is from the killer's video recordings. However, the camera's batteries are dead, so she decides to drive to the nearest store. Chromeskull attacks them before loading, but then sends them to the store to get new batteries and a videotape. If she tries to escape or to alert the police, he wants to kill the other customers in the store. At the checkout, the young salesman notices that something is wrong. He takes a rifle and goes outside. However, Chromeskull reaches for the gun, so that the seller shoots his own head off. Two young men, Tommy and Anthony, are in the shop with the young woman. Anthony goes to the back exit, where Chromeskull cuts his throat shortly afterwards.

Tucker and Steven also arrive at the store, where they want to barricade themselves with the others. In the killer’s suitcase that Steven brought in, they find a can in which Steven is pouring super glue . When the lights go out, Chromeskull appears from behind the counter, grabs Steven and kills him with a chemical substance. Tucker tries to shoot him but always misses his target. Tommy escapes to the front door while Tucker pounces on the killer, who stabs him in the chest with a knife. The young woman crawls into the cooling system and uses a grid to ward off the killer’s knife attacks. He finally gives her the camera. The video tape inside shows that she is a drug addict prostitute who Chromeskull hit with a baseball bat in a hotel room. When Chromeskull attacks her again, he loses his skull mask. He reaches for the can from his suitcase and smears the contents into the mask so that it sticks to his face again. However, the super glue etches his skin, whereupon he rips the mask and face off his head. He is lying motionless on the floor when the young woman hits him on the head with a bat. Tucker then opens his eyes briefly, believes he sees Cindy in front of him, who tells him that she loves him, and dies. The young woman then drives to Atlanta with Tommy . When the police arrive on the scene, Chromeskull's body has disappeared.

Reviews

For the lexicon of international film , Laid to Rest was “committed to the style and clichés of the 1980s with little surprise”. Kurt Meinicke from moviemaze.de stated that the film "just like most of its role models, could not really convince in terms of story and actors", but was "very successful in terms of violence and consistency". "The convincing effects let the inclined Gorehound see over a few logic holes," said Meinicke. As far as “ingenuity” is concerned, “ Laid to Rest is a bloody joy”.
