action
Arabia , a long time ago ... Laila and Kaish have had a very deep and extraordinary friendship since they were children. When Kaish just puts her name on paper at school instead of paying attention to the teacher's words, the punishment follows immediately. With a stick the teacher wants to show him the right way of Allah . Lo and behold, not only Kaish suffers, but also his Laila, whose palms are starting to bleed.
Kaish's father recognizes this divine connection and asks Emir, Laila's father and at the same time his archenemy, for the sake of the children's peace. But Emir's heart is like a stone and forbids any contact between the children.
Years later, love finds its way undeterred - Laila and Kaish meet again at a fair and immediately their deep love flares up again.
This does not go undetected: Emir realizes that the son of his archenemy is wooing his daughter. Together with his son Tabrej, they fight against this relationship. Laila begs her father and lets his heart soften. But at the same time a great calamity occurs. Tabrej kills Kaish's father, as a result of which Kaish takes revenge on Tabrej and beats him in battle - and thus attracts the wrath of the whole clan. Kaish is banished to the desert; Laila is married to Tabrej's childhood friend Prince Bhakshi.
In the desert, Kaish goes mad in love for his Laila and adores her in his poems and songs, which can finally be heard from everyone's lips. Because of this, he is only called "Majnu" (Arabic: "The Crazy").
Prince Bhakshi also hears about it and promises not to touch Laila and meets this extraordinary love with great respect. But Bhakshi's enemies kidnap Laila into the desert. When she tries to escape, she is badly injured. In Majnu's arms she finally lets out her last breath. Majnu cannot bear this suffering and dies shortly afterwards. Only death can deliver them from suffering so that they are united in heaven.
