Iftekhar

Iftekhar (actually Iftekhar Khan ; also Iftikhar ; Hindi : इफ़्तेख़ार, Ifte kh ār; * February 22, 1920 in Kanpur ; † March 4, 1995 in Bombay ) was an Indian film actor of the Hindi film . He is best known for his numerous roles as a police inspector and has starred in more than 250 films.

Life

After a few short film appearances from the late 1930s, his work as a film actor intensified in the mid-1950s after appearing in Sohrab Modis Mirza Ghalib (1954) and Bimal Roys Biraj Bahu (1954). In the 1960s and 1970s, he was particularly present in numerous roles as a police inspector or commissioner. He often appeared as a police opponent of Raj Kapoor , Dev Anand , Rajesh Khanna or Amitabh Bachchan . His most important films include Bimal Roys Bandini (1963), Raj Kapoor's Sangam (1964), Manoj Kumars Shaheed (1965), Prakash Mehras Zanjeer (1973), Don (1978) and Yash Chopras Kaala Patthar (1979).

In addition to Hindi entertainment films , Iftekhar also starred in two episodes of the US television series Maya in 1967 and in the English-language films Bombay Talkie (1970) by James Ivory and City of Joy (1992) by Roland Joffé .
