Toponymy
The Laize River gave the community its name. La-Ville was added to avoid confusion between the river and the parish.
geography
The village is located south of Caen , near the regional capital, in the valley of the Laize river of the same name . The municipality of Laize-la-Ville was surrounded by May-sur-Orne in the north, Fontenay-le-Marmion in the west, Fresney-le-Puceux in the south-east and south, Boulon in the south-west and Clinchamps-sur-Orne in the west.
geology
In the immediate vicinity is the syncline of May-sur-Orne . The Normandy is primarily in the Paris Basin . However, West Normandy also belongs to the Armorican massif. Laize-la-Ville lies on the border between the two geological units. In this sense, Laize-la-Ville with its two discordances is a recognized geological site of international importance.
