The Hessian state representation at the federal government was located in Bonn's parliamentary and government district from 1949 to 2000 . The former building of the state representative office, two listed villas , are located in the district of Gronau on Kurt-Schumacher-Straße (house numbers 4–8) in the center of the federal quarter opposite the Schürmann building .

history

Today's Villa Kurt-Schumacher-Straße 8 was built in 1921/22 for the client W. Hamacher according to plans by the Bonn architect and government master builder Julius Rolffs . In 1946 the middle roof structure was renewed as a result of fire damage.

After Bonn had become the seat of government of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949 , the villa was located in the middle of the new parliament and government district . In the same year, after an interim purchase by North Rhine-Westphalia and the relocation of tenants instructed by the Housing Office, the property became the property of the State of Hesse , whose state representative now had to move from the State Council of the Bizone in Frankfurt am Main to the new West German. In this context, the top floor of the house was expanded in 1950 . Due to delays in clearing the building, Hessen set up the offices of its state representative with initially 15 employees in rental properties in the north of the Kessenich district (Scharnhorststraße 12/14, today Aloys-Schulte-Straße) and from then on only used the property in Gronau as a guest house and for representative occasions. The building was converted into the headquarters of the Hessian State Representation in 1964. In 1978, Hesse had the interior of the villa completely rebuilt and, according to plans by the Wiesbaden State Building Office, expanded by a rear new building with a single-storey connecting building, which was used as a guest house ("Conference and Guest Pavilion ") With a large event room and a" Hessenstube ". In 1981 the state of Hesse acquired the neighboring double villa at Kurt-Schumacher-Straße 4/6 through a land swap with the federal government, which in return received a 2,367 m² plot of land adjacent to the state representation at the rear and relocated its office space, which had previously been located in Kessenich, there until 1983 .

In the course of the relocation of the seat of parliament and government (1999/2000), the Hessian state representation with 35 employees moved to Berlin in autumn 2000 . The previous office building was sold to the Bonn entrepreneur Marc Asbeck in October 2000, the previous guest house by purchase agreement dated February 8, 2002 . The latter temporarily (as of 2004) took up offices of the Deutsche Welle opposite, as well as the library of the Max Planck Institute for research on common goods. The former buildings of the state representation in Bonn, two protected architectural monuments , are currently used by private companies. The former guest house located in the park was extended in 2008 in the form of a set-back glass structure and a stair tower was added to the side. Since the end of September 2018, the office of the Monopolies Commission has been located in the former state representation .

The entry of the Villa Kurt-Schumacher-Straße 8 - due to the changes during the renovation in 1978 only with its outer structure - in the list of monuments of the city of Bonn took place on December 20, 2001. The front garden area with the original lattice fence and the rear park are as Part of the property is under monument protection, but not the rear extension.
