Overview plan of the Langwied Lake District

Langwieder Seenplatte is a collective name for several lakes in the west of Munich , in the urban district of Aubing-Lochhausen-Langwied . In August 2000, the 120 hectare large recreational area Langwieder Seenplatte was opened. The lake district includes the Langwieder See, the Lußsee, which was newly created in the late 1990s, and the Birkensee.

Langwieder See

Bathers at the Langwieder See

The Langwieder See is located in the west of Munich directly on the A8 to Stuttgart and was created by excavating gravel for the construction of the motorway in the 1930s. The lake has a water surface of 18 hectares. a. a rowing boat rental and a mini golf course. Since May 2008 diving has been allowed again in the northeastern part of the lake. A former motorway service station has been converted into a hotel and restaurant with a beer garden, and there is a campsite near the lake. The rescue station of the Munich-West water rescue service is located on the southern bank of the lake and operates a rapid response group from here. From this station, missions and patrols on the Luß and Birkensee as well as first responder missions in the vicinity are carried out.

Lußsee

Expansion of the Lußsee (1999)

Directly next to the Langwieder See, the Lußsee was built from a gravel pit from 1995 to 2000 for the construction of the Eschenrieder Spange , a section of the Munich bypass motorway A99 .

To the south and east of the lake, biotopes were created to compensate for the construction of the motorway, while large lawns for bathers were created in the north and west. The 1.2 square kilometer area lies between the Langwieder See and the Birkensee. A large pebble beach with a promenade and kiosk is located in the northwest corner of the lake. On the western side of the lake, at the point where the Lußsee is closest to the Langwieder See, there is a boathouse of the water watch with a motor lifeboat. In 2010 the Lußsee was voted the cleanest lake in Munich and the surrounding area.

Birch Lake

The Birkensee in spring before the beginning of the bathing season

About 200 meters north of the Lußsee is the smaller Birkensee with an area of 4.6 hectares . This lake, located in the municipality of Bergkirchen in the district of Dachau , is also the product of gravel extraction for a railway line in 1938. The entire lake and the surrounding lawns have been officially designated as a nudist area since the redesign . In addition to nudists, the Birkensee was preferred by young people for a long time, partly because it was only poorly accessible at the time. There were only trails around the lake, it was surrounded by fields. This remoteness made open fires possible, among other things. Another attraction for over 20 years was a rope that hung from a branch over the lake and made it possible to swing in from the bank. The branch from which the rope was hanging has now been sawed off. The seclusion and the original charm of the lake were largely lost due to its inclusion in the local recreation area, which included the redesign of the fields into lawns, the leveling of paths and the flattening of the steep banks. On the remaining steep banks, which had been used for bathing for decades, fenced-in biotopes were built and signs were put up warning of the danger to life from the steep banks.

Traffic situation

  • The Langwieder See is located directly on the A8, exit "München-Langwied"

There are 1,100 parking spaces in the west of the site and 700 in the south. A bathing bus runs from the Lochhausen S-Bahn station in summer when the weather is bad.

  • Approx. The S-Bahn station Gröbenzell is 3 km west of the lake
  • Approx. The Lochhausen S-Bahn station is 2 km south of the lake
  • Approx. The Allach S-Bahn station is 4 km east of the lake
  • Approx. The Karlsfeld S-Bahn station is 4 km northeast of the lake

The access road from the southeast has been converted into a bicycle road . However, motor vehicles are still permitted. The district committees in the west of Munich have been calling for a safe connection for cyclists to be built for years.

From the beginning of the Whitsun holidays until the end of the summer holidays, the bathing bus runs every 20 minutes between the Langwieder Lakes and the Lochhausen S-Bahn station when the weather is good . There is a connection to the S-Bahn line 3 and the city bus 162 as well as the MVV regional bus 830. Since the "Badebus" is a special line, the line is not integrated into the MVV tariff. Tickets can be purchased from the bus driver.

Rescue services

The lake district around the Luß- and Langwiedersee is equipped with emergency telephones that establish a voice connection to the water rescue service in emergencies and automatically connect them to the emergency number 112 if the call is not answered within a few seconds.

Trivia

In the detective novel Wolfsstadt - A story from the post-war period by Bernd Ohm, the Langwieder See plays an important role. According to Roman, a woman's corpse was found on its bank in the spring of 1948, which was apparently brought there by truck via the nearby motorway.

In the summer of 2008, the episode Alles ok am Badesee of the well-known TV series Willi wills Wissen was filmed here.
