Lake13
Lake13 (civil: Lars Kesseler ; born October 13, 1972 in Herrenberg ) is a German designer , graffiti and street artist.
Life
Lars Kesseler grew up in Belgium and now lives in Vaals in the Netherlands . Lake13 has been a graffiti artist since 1988 . "We don't just want to beautify the streets, we want to stimulate people to think with our art," is the intention of one of the pioneers of the Aachen graffiti scene in the tradition of Klaus Paier . Initially only active in the illegal sprayer scene, Lake13, after being convicted in 1994, now only works legally. Kesseler places particular emphasis on bringing graffiti into the established art scene as an art form.
Kesseler completed his training as a design assistant (GTA) in 1996. In 1997, he studied design at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences , which he completed in 2001 with a diploma. His diploma thesis Wild Interior included the complete redesign of a restaurant in Vaals with graffiti elements, the implementation was initially carried out as a model and was later carried out on site.
In 2002, Kesseler opened the LAKE atelier as a contact point for graffiti artists and those interested in art. The studio functions as a gallery in which graffiti and street art are regularly exhibited and presented.
Lars Kesseler aka Lake13 works closely with the Ludwig Forum for International Art . He has been organizing artist workshops since 2004 and teaching as a freelance art lecturer at schools and museums as well as at the Volkshochschule Aachen.
Kesseler has been combining the art of graffiti with digital media since 2005 . The special thing about this digital art form is that the artist processes hand-drawn elements using a computer and incorporates them into photographs, which merges the transitions from the sketch to the photograph. Instead of aerosol cans, he uses pens, computers and a camera as design elements.
On behalf of the Alemannia Aachen fan club supporters , Kesseler designed part of the new Aachen Tivoli with his graffiti art in 2010 .
In cooperation with the State Working Group for Art + Media NRW eV , he created a graffiti action on the subject of "cry for art" in 2011 on a listed bunker at the Ponttor in Aachen.
In April 2014, Kesseler took part in the first Comiciade at the Ludwig Forum for International Art in Aachen and, in this context, designed a wall of a transformer house on Blücherplatz with graffiti.
