Lars Kurz (2011)

Lars Kurz (born December 21, 1965 ) is a German music producer, film composer and sound engineer .

Lars Kurz took guitar lessons from Peter O'Mara and played in various musical productions from 1985 to 1988 ( Jesus Christ Superstar , Hair , Westside Story and others). His project Art Beat (later Big Sleep ) was part of the Federal Republic of Germany's official contribution to the cultural program of the 1988 Summer Olympics, the Seoul Art Disco . From 1990 he appeared increasingly as a studio musician and radio play guitarist in works by Andi Ammer , Ulrich Bassenge , Maria Volk and others and began to compose film music.

In 1993 Lars Kurz founded the Noisecore trio Mars (not identical to the No-New-York-Band of the same name, which disbanded in 1978 ), which made three CDs and made a number of celebrated appearances. Mars played u. a. in the opening act of Primus and Bad Religion . Guido Lucas from the underground label BluNoise writes about his recording of Yes / Now (1997): “The first real Munich musician community after AMON DÜÜL II in Herrsching. I recorded the record on site in the living room with an old radio tube mixer. Unforgettable time. And I was one of them. Fat washer. Great live band. Everything was much better in the past anyway. "

The old Telefunken V76 tube mixer became Tonstudio1 , in which a number of radio plays were recorded under Kurz's technical direction. In addition, numerous pieces of music were created for children's radio plays and the Sonoton library.

In 2010, Lars Kurz launched his library label MassiveBass under the slogan Exquisite Music For Film , which stands for original music: "Artists produce high-quality formatted art for the mainstream market" (Lars Kurz). With alarming speed, the producer lines up album after album, in this respect Pete Namlook or Bill Laswell can be compared. His scores are characterized by use of unusual instruments like dobro , fortepiano , contralto clarinet or euphonium , but also use electronics and often carry a sublime Dub -Touch. A tuba album with the virtuoso Jon Sass and a CD with new compositions for Bavarian folk musical instruments such as dulcimer and jew's harp with the composer Wolfgang M. Neumann also appeared in his edition.

MassiveBass has been part of the Warner Music Group since April 2015 .
