Latonia Moore

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Latonia Moore (* 1979 in Houston ) is an American opera singer (soprano).

Life

Latonia Moore grew up listening to black music . At the age of eight she sang not only in the gospel family , but also in the church choir of the Baptist New Sunrise Baptist Church , where her grandfather Cranford Moore worked as a pastor.

She first studied gospel, then jazz singing and finally opera singing. This change required a major technical change from her, since in both gospel and jazz the chest voice is used more heavily in higher registers, while the high, pure tones of opera singing predominantly require head voice . Moore began her studies at the University of North Texas , and later continued with Bill Schuman of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia .

Moore made her debut at the Palm Beach Opera in West Palm Beach in 1998 and was engaged as a student at the Houston Ebony Opera that same year . Her repertoire includes Donna Anna in Don Giovanni , Lucrezia in Lucrezia Borgia , Violetta in La traviata , Marguerite in Faust and Tatjana in Eugene Onegin . In the role of Mimì in La Bohème , she was seen at the Dresden Semperoper , as Micaëla in Carmen at the Dallas Opera and at the New York City Opera . She made her debut as Liù in Turandot at London's Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. So far, she sang the title role in Aida at the Hamburg State Opera , Covent Garden and the Zurich Opera . Latonia Moore also performs in concert, she is u. a. to be heard on the Deutsche Grammophon recording of Mahler's 2nd Symphony , a recording from the Wiener Musikverein in 2002, conducted by the American multi-millionaire and Mahler enthusiast Gilbert Kaplan .
