The Laudenbach (colloquially known as the White Gelster ) is a right or southern and with 5.4 km stretch of flow the longest tributary of the Gelster in the northeast of Hesse , Germany .

Name origin

The “first name” of the White Gelsters probably comes from the lime particles washed out of the calcareous soil on the Hohe Meißner, especially after heavy rain , which get into the course of the stream and color the water milky-cloudy.

course

The Laudenbach runs in a predominantly northerly direction, entirely through village districts and agricultural areas of Großalmerode . It rises on the western roof of the Hoher Meißner mountain range . Its source is located on the northwest flank of Meinetsberg ( 501.9  m above sea  level ).

From Meinetsberg , the Laudenbach flows through the district of Laudenbach and then through the district of Uengsterode , which lies in the valley at the junction of the Kaufunger Wald in the northwest and Hohem Meißner in the southeast.

A little north of Uengsterode, the Laudenbach flows into the Gelster ( Schwarze Gelster ) coming from the west , a tributary of the Werra .

Catchment area and tributaries

The catchment area of the Laudenbach covers 15.989 km². The brook is fed by at least six small brooks that come from the west from the high elevations of the Kaufunger Forest (max. 643.4  m above sea level ) and from the east from the Hohe Meißner, which at 753.6  m above sea level. NN is the highest mountain in the northeast of Hesse.
