Uengsterode is a district of the city of Großalmerode in the Werra-Meißner district in North Hesse .

geography

Uengsterode is located in the Frau-Holle-Land Geo-Nature Park (Werratal.Meißner.Kaufunger Wald) about 3 km east -south- east of the core town of Großalmerode - between the Großalmeroder districts of Laudenbach in the south-south-west and Trubenhausen in the north-northeast. It is located between the Hohen Meißner ( 753.6  m ) in the south-southeast, the Heiligenberg ( 583.4  m ) in the south-east, the Hohekopf ( 539.4  m ) in the west- south- west and the Langenberg ( 565  m ) in the north-north-west. The village is traversed by the Gelster tributary Laudenbach .

Landesstraße  3238 runs through Uengsterode. The nearest train station is in Witzenhausen . The Uengsterode stop was in the Großalmerode – Trubenhausen section of the (disused) Gelstertal Railway ; this railway line led through the nearby Albslieder tunnel . The nearest airport is Kassel-Calden .

history

The place is first mentioned in 1322. In the village there are still two testimonies from the past, namely a baptismal font from 1687 and a former court square with a round ashlar wall and an atonement cross . The place belonged to the Hessian office Ludwigstein / Witzenhausen until 1821 and then to the district of Witzenhausen . During the French occupation, the place belonged to the canton of Sooden in the Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813).

On 1 January 1974 Uengsterode was in the course of administrative reform in Hesse powerful state law in the city of Großalmerode incorporated .

Personalities

The grandmother of Erich Honecker is probably the most famous daughter of the village ; she came from Uengsterode.
