The Langenberg is 565  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Kaufungen forest . It is located near Großalmerode, mostly in the community-free area of ​​the Kaufunger Wald estate in northern Hesse's Werra-Meißner district and is part of the Red Lake .

The Langenberg rises in the geo-nature park Frau-Holle-Land (Werratal.Meißner.Kaufunger forest) . Its summit is 3 km northeast of the core town of Großalmerode and 3 km north-northwest of Uengsterode and 1.7 km northwest of Trubenhausen , two districts of Großalmerode. It is also located 3.1 km southwest of Hundelshausen , 2.5 km south-south-west of Fahrenbach and 3 km south-south-east of the hamlet of Oberroßbach , which belongs to Roßbach and is located in the south to south-west of the city of Witzenhausen .

The Langenberg is connected to the Great Cap ( 572.5  m ), 1.2 km northwest of its summit, via an approximately 525 m high saddle . It is an eastern branch of the Bilstein (approx.  641.2  m ).

Natural allocation

The Langenberg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Osthessisches Bergland (No. 35), in the main unit Fulda-Werra-Bergland (357) and in the subunit Kaufunger Wald and Söhre (357.7) to the natural area Kaufunger Wald-Hochfläche (Vorderer Kaufunger Wald) (357.71 ). The landscape falls from north to east into the natural area Hinterer Kaufunger Wald (357.72). The southern foot joins the Rommeroder Hügelland natural area (357.53) and the southeast to eastern foot meets the Velmed Valley natural area (357.52).

In the direction of the Great Cap , 570 m north-north-west of the Langenberg summit, the Rote See , an approx. 0.7 hectare open-cast mine, is located. To the west of the mountain, the Fahrenbach I flows , and the Fahrenbach II rises on the northern slope ; Both flow into the Werra tributary Gelster, which flows south and east of the mountain . Numerous Gelster tributaries flow from the lower south to north-east slope of the mountain, the longest of which is 1 km long.

Transport links and hiking

The federal highway 451 leads south and east past the Langenberg from Großalmerode through Trubenhausen to Hundelshausen . From this road branches off to the north of Hundelshausen, the district road  64, which ends in the north-northeast of the mountain in Fahrenbach. The mountain top can only be reached on forest trails and paths. From the Bilstein runs past the Great Cap and the Red Lake, over the north and east slopes of the Langenberg and then down to Trubenhausen the Frau-Holle-path ; There is a parking lot at the village community center on the path. Before the Red Lake, the Eder-Gelster-Weg branches off from this path to Großalmerode, where it ends at the Gelster, and the premium hiking trail P14 Bilstein . Shortly afterwards, the Herkulesweg branches off to Hundelshausen. The Großalmerode 18 circular route leads right up to the Großeücke, past the Red Lake, around the Langenberg and past the Trubenhausen village community center .
