Laura cycle path

The Laura cycle path is a 46 km long cycle path in Thuringia that partly follows the former narrow-gauge railway Weimar – Rastenberg / Großrudestedt - also known locally as Laura.

The history

The cycle route runs from Weimar to Schöndorf and reaches the highest point on the route between Schöndorf and Wohlsborn at 334 m. It continues via Sachsenhausen , Leutenthal , Daasdorf to Buttelstedt . The route then leads via Schwerstedt , Neumark , Vippachedelhausen , Markvippach , Dielsdorf and Schloßvippach to the former terminus of the Laura Railway in Großrudestedt . Between Alperstedt and Schallenburg another knoll (apex: 180 m) has to be overcome before you reach the Unstrut cycle path in Schallenburg.

Connecting cycle routes (selection)

In Schallenburg there is a connection to the Unstrut cycle path , in Weimar there is a connection to the Ilmtal cycle path , the long-distance cycle path Thuringian city chain , the Mittelland route (D4) and the direct connection from Leipzig to Erfurt.
