Laura Steinbach (born August 2, 1985 in Homburg ) is a former German handball player .

Career

Steinbach initially practiced several sports and decided to play handball at the age of 14. Steinbach moved from TSV Urach to TuS Metzingen in 2000 , where she was used in the 2nd Bundesliga from the age of 16 . The 1.81 m tall student played for Bundesliga club DJK / MJC Trier from 2005 to 2007 . From the 2007/08 season she was under contract with Bayer 04 Leverkusen . There she played in the left back position . For the 2013/14 season she moved to the Hungarian club Ferencváros Budapest . In October 2014 she returned to Germany and joined the Bundesliga promoted Füchse Berlin . In the 2015/16 season she was under contract with the Spanish first division club Prosetecnisa Zuazo. From December 2016 she was under contract with the Spanish first division club KH7 BM Granollers. She ended her career after the 2016/17 season. From July 2018, Steinbach was the team manager of the German women's national team. She gave up this job in September 2019 due to the impending birth of her second child.

The daughter of the former swimmer and sports official Klaus Steinbach was part of the German national team and played 116 games (241 goals) for the German national team. Her international debut was on April 7, 2006 in Riesa against Croatia. With the DHB selection, she took part in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing .
