Laurent Clerc (athlete)

Laurent Clerc (born April 12, 1972 ) is a former Swiss sprinter who specialized in the 400-meter run .

At the World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg in 1995 , he retired from the Swiss 4 x 400 meter relay in the preliminary run.

In 1996 he did not get past the first round in the individual competition at the Olympic Games in Atlanta and reached the semi-finals with the Swiss 4 x 400 meter relay. At the 1997 World Cup in Athens , he failed again in the first round with the Swiss quartet. In 1998 he retired at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Valencia over 400 m in the preliminary run and came in fifth place with the Swiss relay at the European Athletics Championships in Budapest .

The following year he overtook him again in the first round at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Maebashi over 400 m in 1999 . At the World Championships in Seville , the Swiss 4 x 400 meter relay with the line-up Clerc, Mathias Rusterholz , Alain Rohr and Marcel Schelbert set the current Swiss record with 3: 02.46 minutes, but still missed the entry to the final.

In 2000 he did not get past the first round at the European Indoor Championships in Ghent and at the Olympic Games in Sydney in the 4 x 400 relay.

In 1997 and 2000 he became Swiss champion over 400 m.
