Status: end of career

Lauri Dalla Valle (born September 14, 1991 in Kontiolahti ) is a former Finnish football player .

Club career

Career start

Dalla Valle was born in Kontiolahti near the city of Joensuu , the son of an Italian emigrant and a Finnish woman. In the city of Joensuu he also began his career in the youth of the local JIPPO association . After he was voted the best player in the Finnish Nike Premier Cup in 2005, he moved to Inter Milan at the age of 14 in his father's home country, Italy . At Inter, however, Dalla Valle was uncomfortable and homesick. He then left the club after the three-month probationary period and switched back to JIPPO.

It took two years in a row before he made his debut in the Finnish second division for JIPPO at the age of 16. On May 22, 2007 he suffered a serious injury in the cup game against JJK Jyväskylä , which forced him to take a month-long break due to injury. He had previously scored his first professional goal in the same game. He played a total of 8 league games without scoring for JIPPO before becoming an interesting transfer share again in the summer of 2007. Already in 2006 he was chosen by the Finnish media as the greatest Finnish youth talent and in the same year he had a trial training at Liverpool FC , after which, however, a commitment was abandoned. Now there were some signs of a move to Chelsea , who made him a contract offer after successful trial training. Dalla Valle hesitated, however, and completed another trial training session at Liverpool, which this time also ended with an offer. He then signed a three and a half year contract with Liverpool.

From January 2008 he then ran for the U-16 team of the club, for which he was able to score 11 goals in 10 games. His first success was winning the “Zayed Cup” in the UAE . From 2009 he ran for the U-18 team of Liverpool, with whom he reached the final of the FA Youth Cup , in which, however, they were defeated by Arsenal 2: 6. In the course of the cup he scored 8 goals for Liverpool, 4 of them in the semi-final against Birmingham City . In total, he scored 20 goals in 28 appearances for the Liverpool U-18s. In June 2009 he rose to the reserve team of Liverpool before he made his debut for the professional team in July 2010 in qualifying for the Europa League in a 0-2 win in the away game against Rabotnički Skopje . He came on in the 83rd minute for Alberto Aquilani .

Fulham FC

On August 31, 2010, he moved as part of the transfer from Paul Konchesky to the Reds in return together with Alex Kacaniklic to Fulham FC . Since he could not prevail at Fulham, he was loaned to the Football League One at AFC Bournemouth in March 2011 . Upon his return to Fulham, he was loaned out to Dundee United , Exeter City and Crewe Alexandra .

Molde FK

On February 25, 2013, Fulham FC announced that Dalla Valle was moving to Molde in Norway . He scored no goals in four games and left Molde after less than half a year.

VV St. Truiden

On July 5, 2013, Dalla Valle signed a three-year contract with the Belgian second division club VV St. Truiden . However, he left the club after a year and went back to England .

Crewe Alexandra

In December 2014 he signed a contract with Crewe Alexandra and played there for the next eighteen months.

FK Zemun

Here he played from August to November 2017 and then ended his active career.

National team

Dalla Valle ran so far for the U-16, U-17 and U-19 youth teams of Finland, with which he could not qualify for a major youth tournament.

In autumn 2008 he refused a call-up to the Finnish U-21 national team to qualify for the U-21 European Championship in Denmark. This caused harsh criticism in Finland from Markku Kanerva and the Finnish national team coach Stuart Baxter . Dalla Valle justified his rejection by wanting to concentrate fully on the breakthrough in Liverpool. Due to the fact that his father's home country, Italy , is also said to be interested in a drafting of the player, his real motivations for the cancellation have been questioned. Dalla Valle himself had spoken out in favor of a national team career in Finland after his failed attempt to gain a foothold in Milan.

Others

Dalla Valles father Loreno is an Italian citizen and worked as a police drug investigator in Venice . After he married the Finn Marketta, he quit his job and emigrated with her to Finland . There he started his own business and has been involved in mushroom export ever since . His father was also the driving force behind the move to Milan and accompanied him afterwards to make it easier for him to get used to it. Dalla Valle stated in an interview that his father would have liked him to have stayed in Italy.
