Lawrence Cherono (born August 7, 1988 ) is a Kenyan marathon runner .

career

In 2015 he won the Seville Marathon in 2:09:39 h at its premiere . This was followed by a second place in the Lanzhou Marathon and a seventh place in the Shanghai Marathon .

The following year he finished second in the Hong Kong Marathon and won the Prague Marathon in 2:07:24 hours. In the fall he finished second in the Hengshui Marathon and improved Jimmy Muindi's twelve-year-old course record by more than a minute and a half to 2:09:39 hours in the Honolulu Marathon .

In 2017 he finished second in the Rotterdam Marathon with a time of 2:06:21 h before setting new course records in each of his victories in Amsterdam (2:05:09 h) and Honolulu (2:08:27 h) .

At London Marathon 2018 Cherono seventh. The 30-year-old successfully defended his title at the Amsterdam Marathon in October and improved both the course record and his personal best with 2:04:06 hours.

In 2019, Cherono won the Boston Marathon in 2:07:57 hours. It was his first win in a World Marathon Majors race . The second followed in the same year at the Chicago Marathon , where he prevailed in 2:05:45 h.
