League City is a city in Galveston County and Harris County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

The city is located on US Highway 45 in southeast Texas, is in the northeast about 8 km from Galveston Bay , in the southeast about 37 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of ​​135.6 km², of which 2.9 km² is water .

history

George W. Butler , the town's founder, arrived in the area in 1873 and settled at the confluence of Clear Creek and Chigger Bayou . The place was known as Butler's Ranch or Clear Creek until 1893 . The place was then named after JC League , who donated land for the railroad and the first school.
