League City is a city in Galveston County and Harris County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located on US Highway 45 in southeast Texas, is in the northeast about 8 km from Galveston Bay , in the southeast about 37 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of 135.6 km², of which 2.9 km² is water .
history
George W. Butler , the town's founder, arrived in the area in 1873 and settled at the confluence of Clear Creek and Chigger Bayou . The place was known as Butler's Ranch or Clear Creek until 1893 . The place was then named after JC League , who donated land for the railroad and the first school.

According to the census in 2000 , 45,444 people lived here in 16,189 households and 12,465 families. The population density was 342.4 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 83.99% White, 5.09% African American, 0.37% Native American, 3.17% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, and 5.29% other ethnic groups. About 2.04% were mixed race and 13.49% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 16,189 households, 42.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 65.4% of them were married couples living together. 8.2% were single mothers and 23.0% were non-families. 18.4% of all households were single households and 3.2% had people living there who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.19.
29.4% of the population were under 18 years old, 6.6% 18 to 24, 35.9% 25 to 44, 22.2% 45 to 64, and 5.9% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 99.0 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 97.5 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 67,838 , and the median income for a family is $ 72,760. Males had a median income of $ 52,366 versus $ 34,301 for females. The per capita income was $ 27,170. 4.8% of the population and 3.6% of families are below the poverty line. 4.9% of these were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 6.0% were 65 or older.
