Empty World is the title of a 1977 novel by John Christopher and the 1987 film adaptation of the same name.

In a car accident, 15-year-old Neil Miller (film name "Tom") loses his parents and lives with his grandparents in a coastal village. The so-called Calcuttapest comes to England via international airports . At first only the elderly are killed by this disease, but over time the victims get younger and younger.

After his grandparents and most of the people in the village died, Neil went to deserted London to look for survivors. He meets Lucy and Billie (Helen and Kiki) and moves around with the two girls. In the end, Neil falls in love with Lucy, and Billie (who becomes extremely jealous) tries to end this beginning love. Eventually, Neil faces an important decision and realizes that he has learned quite a lot about life.

The filmed version takes place because it is a German television film for ZDF, including in Munich. The television film has only been shown once on November 9, 1987 at 7:30 p.m. on ZDF. Directed by Wolfgang Panzer . In the film, the boy doesn't have to make a decision between the girls Helen and Kiki because one of the girls falls victim to the plague.

A current version of the film is currently being developed by the German production company Lago Film and the Los Angeles-based production company Cherry Road Films.
