The film is a WWE Studios production and was directed by Mel Damski . The film was released in American cinemas on September 1, 2010, and in Germany on October 1, 2010. A week later, the film was released on DVD and Blu-ray .

15-year-old protagonist Calvin Chetley, known as Cal, is a skinny outsider who is teased by teenagers in his small hometown in Oklahoma . His father dies in a tragic car accident . Mike, a former wrestler and older brother of Cal, blames himself for the accident and leaves the family as a result. Cal joins his high school wrestling team . He hopes to be trained by his brother there so that he can rebuild a relationship with him and thus reunite the family. When he asks his brother Mike if he would like to train him, he refuses. When Cal helps Mike with a false testimony in court , Mike decides to train his brother. Cal wins many fights, which his mother Sharon is proud of. When Mike goes to jail for a fight , Cal's mother calls out to find out that Cal and Mike have been secretly dating for a long time. After the ensuing argument between Cal and his mother, she drives to jail to get Mike out. After all, Cal's final fight is the occasion for the family to reunite.
