Leila Schayegh

Leila Schayegh (* 1975 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss violinist and pedagogue in the field of historical performance practice .

The daughter of an Iranian father and a Swiss mother first studied modern violin at the Basel University of Music with Raphaël Oleg , where she obtained her soloist diploma in 1999 with “Summa cum Laude”. As a winner of several competitions she entered the orchestra of the 2000 Zurich Opera one. Two years later she began specializing in baroque violin and historical performance practice in the class of Chiara Banchini at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis . She received several awards, such as the “Premio Bonporti” for baroque violin, before completing her training. After receiving her diploma, she appeared as a soloist and member of various “early music” formations, such as “La Risonanza”, “Ensemble 415”, “ La Cetra Basel ”, “ Concerto Köln ”, “Ensemble Muscadin” or her own In 2009 she founded the ensemble “La Centifolia” with whom she recorded several records.

From 2006 to 2010 Leila Schayegh led the baroque violin class at the Karlsruhe University of Music . In September 2010 she took over the chair for baroque violin at the Schola Cantorum together with Amandine Beyer . Her research in music history currently focuses on ornament styles and techniques, especially from the time of the sensitive style , as well as research by the University of Bern on historical French bow stroke sources.
