Václav Luks

Václav Luks (born November 14, 1970 in Rakovník ) is a Czech harpsichordist, horn player, conductor, musicologist and pedagogue, who has been working mainly in the field of historical performance practice since 1995 .

Life

Václav Luks began his musical training at the Pilsen Conservatory in the subjects of horn and piano. After further studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague , he worked as a horn player at the West Czech Radio and from 1989 to 1991 at the National Theater in Prague. From 1992 he started studying again at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in the harpsichord class of Jörg-Andreas Bötticher , he received thorough bass lessons with Jesper Bøje Christensen and in 1997 he received his soloist diploma. From 1996 to 1999 Luks taught figured bass at the Prague Academy and from 2001 to 2003 he held a teaching position at the Music Academy in Leipzig . Since 2013 he has been teaching choral conducting at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden. Luks is a juror at various early music competitions, such as the “Melk Melk Competition”.

In 1990 he founded the baroque orchestra Collegium 1704 in Prague , which was given a professional structure from 2005 onwards with the “Collegium vocale 1704” that was established at that time; this made it possible to perform larger vocal works such as the Bach Passions.

Luks played natural horn in the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and is one of the guest conductors of the La Cetra Barockorchester Basel . He made CD recordings for the labels “Zig-Zag Territoires”, “Supraphon”, “Arta” and “Pan Classics”. One focus of his work is the performance of works by Bohemian composers such as Jan Dismas Zelenka , Antonín Reichenauer , Josef Mysliveček and Georg Anton Benda . At the French early music festivals, the Festival de Sablé in Sablé-sur-Sarthe , Festival de La Chaise-Dieu , Festival de Musique de Sully , but also at the Prague Spring or as an “Artist in Residence” at the “Svatováclavského hudebního festivalu” “(St. Wenceslas Festival) in Ostrava , Luks performed as a guest musician. He has been a guest at the Salzburg Festival several times with his ensemble . In 2014 he was artist in residence with the Collegium 1704 at the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht .
