Leippe-Torno ( Upper Sorbian Lipoj-Tornow ) in Saxony Bautzen district since 1 January 2007, a locality of the city Lauta with the districts Leippe, Torno and Johannisthal. The formerly independent municipality, which had 1447 inhabitants (September 2005), was a member of the Lauta administrative community .
Geography and traffic
Leippe-Torno is located about ten kilometers west of the city of Hoyerswerda and about twelve kilometers southeast of Senftenberg , which is already in the state of Brandenburg . The federal highway 96 runs to the north and the B 97 to the south and east . The federal motorway 13 can be reached via the connection Ruhland (around 20 kilometers away). In the area there are larger areas of forest and also some lakes, in which glass sand used to be extracted. The Senftenberger See is located north of the community. In the west, Leippe-Torno borders Hohenbocka , part of the Ruhland office and the Senftenberg district of Hosena .
history
The place name is as Lipoj / Tornow of Upper Sorbian origin. Leippe was first mentioned in a document on March 28, 1401. Tornos first written reference was made in 1568. In 1740, the Elector of Saxony sold the Vorwerk Torno to the farmers of Leippe since Torno is one of Leippe. In the mid-1840s, Leippe (including Torno) had 251 inhabitants.
Until the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the place belonged to Saxony, then, until the end of the Second World War, to Prussia and in the GDR from 1952 to 1990 to the Cottbus district . After a referendum, the district of Hoyerswerda and thus also the municipality moved back to Saxony.
