The Guns Whisper is an American spy film from 1966 in which the script is based on novels by Donald Hamilton . Dean Martin first played secret agent Matt Helm, directed by Phil Karlson . The film was produced by Irving Allen and provided with music by Elmer Bernstein .
action
At the beginning of the plot, the experienced secret agent Matt Helm, who only works as a photographer, is called back into service from early retirement because a multi-national criminal organization threatens to use an atomic bomb . As is known from the famous secret agent James Bond , he meets several beautiful women on his assignment.
Representation
The singer and actor Dean Martin portrays the hardened secret service veteran Matt Helm as a lover of whiskey, cigarettes and beautiful women. Produced at the height of Bond mania, the typical Bond gadgets and topoi were parodied, but mostly in a somewhat bizarre way - there are strange structural gimmicks in Helm's house, like a bed that drives him to the pool and lets him slide into it, two automatic bars on which he and his respective partner can and also can be dried off an automatic double coffee station.
effect
The film was so successful that Dean Martin subsequently took part in three sequels as co-producer and lead actor. This is also how The Murderers Stand in Line was made in 1966 , followed by When Killers Lurk in wait from 1967. Two years later, Rollkommando produced the fourth film in the series.
criticism
“Fantastic spectacle in the style of the James Bond films. [...] A sophisticated mix of sex and crime. "
“A cold and smooth staged ripper, whose rude joke is hardly suitable for parody. Superfluous."
