Lekwa-teemane local municipality ( English lekwa-teemane local municipality Local Municipality ) is a local municipality in the district Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality of the province of North West in South Africa . The administrative headquarters are in Christiana .

The community is named after the Setswana words for the river Vaal ( Lekwa ) and for diamond ( Teemane ).

In 2011 the community had 53,248 inhabitants. Of these, 81.2% were black, 10.4% white and 7.4% colored .

63.3% of the first language was Setswana, 17.5% Afrikaans, 5.9% Sesotho , 5.4% IsiXhosa , 2.1% English, 1.2% isiZulu and 0.8% isiNdebele .
