Leni Fischer

Leni Fischer , b. Lechte (born July 18, 1935 in Haltern , today Haltern am See) is a German educator and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Rheine in 1955 , Fischer studied philology, English, French and history at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . During her studies, she made several stays in England ( London , Birmingham , Chester ) and France ( Paris , Bordeaux ). In 1959 she passed the examination for the teaching profession, entered secondary school in the same year and worked as a teacher in Burgsteinfurt . In 1969 she moved to the Neuenkirchen secondary school , where she rose to the position of deputy director. In 1976 she left the school service. She also was active in adult education and was since 1970 director of the Community College New churches.

Political party

Fischer joined the CDU in 1968, was later elected to the state board of the CDU Westphalia - Lippe and was deputy chairwoman of the state association from 1983 to 1986. After the merger of the regional associations of Rhineland and Westphalia-Lippe, she was elected to the state board of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia , to which she belonged until 1994. From 1975 to 1986 she was state chairwoman of the women's association of the CDU Westphalia-Lippe and from 1987 to 1991 state chairwoman of the women's union of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia. From 1981 to 1990 she was also Deputy Federal Chairwoman of the Women's Union.

MPs

Fischer was a council member of the Neuenkirchen community from 1975 to 1979. She was a member of the German Bundestag from 1976 to 1998. It was always drawn into parliament via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the Bundestag she mainly dealt with foreign, defense and development policy issues.

In February 1985, Fischer became a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Western European Union (WEU). In 1994/95 she was chairman of the EPP group, at the same time Vice-President and from January 1996 to January 1999 President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe . She was then appointed honorary president.
