Leo Edward O'Neil

Leo Edward O'Neil (born January 31, 1928 in Holyoke , Massachusetts , United States , † November 30, 1997 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Manchester .

Life

Leo Edward O'Neil was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Springfield on June 4, 1955 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Bencenna and auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Springfield on June 30, 1980 . The Bishop of Springfield Joseph Francis Maguire ordained him episcopal on August 22 the next year . Co- consecrators were the Palate of Coroico , Tomás Roberto Manning, OFM , and Timothy Joseph Harrington , Auxiliary Bishop in Worcester .

On October 17, 1989, he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Manchester . With the resignation of Odore Joseph Gendron on June 12 of the following year, he succeeded him as Bishop of Manchester.
