Leonard Lepszy

Leonard January Józef Lepszy (born on 6. November 1856 in Krościenko , District Neumarkt , Galicia , Austria-Hungary , died on 29. July 1937 in Kraków ) was a Polish Montanist , Bergrat , conservators and art historians .

Act

Lepszy was the son of Jan Lepszy and his wife Aniela. He had an older brother Edward Lepszy (1855-1932) who was dedicated to painting.

Lepszy attended a grammar school in Cracow until 1876 and completed a mining degree at the Bergakademie in Leoben until 1880 . From 1883 to 1884 he continued his education at the Art Academy in Krakow . He then began to work for the Hallmarking Office in Cracow, of which he became director. In 1902 he became the correspondent of the KK Central Commission for the Research and Conservation of Art and Historical Monuments for Galicia, in 1907 honorary curator and in 1911 he received the title of member of the Central Commission.

His research area was particularly the history of goldsmithing , on which he wrote several papers. He contributed articles to the General Lexicon of Fine Artists from Antiquity to the Present and the Polski Słownik Biograficzny biographical dictionary .

He was a member of the Polska Akademia Umiejętności in Cracow and the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Cracow , of which he was director from 1914 to 1917.

Lepszy was married to Zofia (nee Muczkowska), they had a son Kazimierz Lepszy (1904–1964), who later worked as an editor at Polski Słownik Biograficzny .
