Leonetto Cappiello
Leonetto Cappiello (born April 6, 1875 in Livorno ; † February 2, 1942 in Cannes ) was an illustrator , poster artist and caricaturist from Italy who worked in Paris .
Life
In 1895 Leonetto Cappiello published the first caricatures in his hometown. From 1898 he continued his career as a caricaturist in Paris with contributions to the humorous-satirical magazines Le Rire , Le Sourire , L'Assiette au beurre and Le Cri de Paris . In 1899 he achieved a great success with the work Nos Actrices in La Revue blanche . Between 1900 and 1920 he had his posters printed by the Paris publisher P. Vercasson. From 1921 to 1936 he had a contract with the Maison Devambez art print company in Cannes.
He illustrated La Princesse de Babylone ( Voltaire 1768) and the short story Le Poète assassiné ( Guillaume Apollinaire 1916).
He was on the Miss France jury .
Leonetto Cappiello found his final resting place next to his wife Suzanne in the Senlisse cemetery .
