Leonhard von der Borgh
Leonhard von der Borgh (* in Osnabrück ; † November 20, 1641 in Lübeck ) was a German lawyer and syndic of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck .
Life
Leonhard von der Borgh was the son of the Osnabrück citizen and canvas dealer Jobst von der Borgh. A connection between this bourgeois family and noble families of this or similar name forms cannot be proven. He enrolled in 1599 to study at the University of Helmstedt and in November 1612 at the University of Heidelberg , where he also disputed in 1613 under the chairmanship of Philipp Hoffmann ( bl. 1589-1626) . He completed his legal studies with a doctorate in both rights. In 1616 he became a lawyer in the monastery of Münster . According to Helge Bei der Wieden , his activity as director of the chancellery of the diocese of Minden , mentioned by Friedrich Bruns , can not be proven with local sources. In 1622 von Borgh became Count Jobst Hermann von Schauenburg and Holstein's councilor in Bückeburg , who, however , experienced liquidity difficulties as a result of the Thirty Years' War from 1629, so that his servants only received the promised benefits in kind, but not the cash benefits. Leonhard von der Borgh, who was married and had four children, got into financial difficulties as a result. Nevertheless, he initially remained in the service of Holstein-Schaumburg and only when, after Jobst Hermann's death in 1635, no agreement could be reached with the guardians of his successor, Count Otto V, did he leave Bückeburg and in 1637 went to Stade , where he was the archbishop's councilor of Bremen as is not proven in Minden, but entered in 1638 in the Golden Book of the St. Antonii Brotherhood . In November he was appointed to the council of Lübeck for the late Otto Tanck . He took up this post in early 1639 and died of a stroke in 1641 . A legal dispute before the Reich Chamber of Commerce over his estate .
