Leoni Cuelenaere

Leoni Margaretha Cuelenaere (born June 7, 1952 in Aardenburg ) is a Dutch diplomat . She has been the Dutch ambassador to Bangladesh since 2015 .

Life

Leoni Cuelenaere has a Danish mother. Her father ran a hotel and restaurant in Zeeuws Vlaanderen . In 1975 she completed a teacher training course in Assen . From 1978 to 1983 she attended the Haagse School voor Taal- en Letterkunde in The Hague , later De Haages Hogeschool, where she did a master's degree in Dutch language and literature.

She worked as a teacher from 1975 to 1987, but quit to study law at Leiden University from 1987 to 1991 . Until 1998 she worked in the Dutch Ministry of Landbouw, Natuur en Voedselkwaliteit .

Together with Angela Kane and Brian Burgoon, she is a board member of the Dialog Advisory Group, a Dutch foundation that works to promote political dialogue in crisis situations in order to avoid violence.

Leoni Cuelenaere is married and has three children.

Diplomatic career

She has been employed in the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1998 , first as deputy head of the legal department, then from 2000 to 2004 as head of department and deputy head of the consular department. Her first assignment abroad was from 2004 to 2008 as deputy head of mission at the Dutch embassy in Harare .

From 2008 to 2011 she was ambassador in Colombo , from 2011 to 2012 in Sanaa and from 2012 to 2015 in Kigali . Her successor in Rwanda was Frédérique de Man . Since 2015 she has succeeded Gerben de Jong as the Dutch ambassador in Dhaka .
