Leontia Kallenou ( Greek Λεοντία Καλλένου ; born October 5, 1994 in Dali ) is a Cypriot high jumper .

Athletic career

Leontia Kallenou gained her first international experience at the 2010 Junior World Championships in Moncton , where she was eliminated with 1.78 m in qualification. A little later she finished fourth in the final of the first ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore . In 2011 she won the silver medal at the Games of the Small States of Europe in Schaan and took part in the Youth World Championships in Lille , where she was eliminated in qualifying. She also won the silver medal at the European Youth Olympic Festival and the gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games that year. In 2012 she only took part in the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , where she could not reach the final again. In 2013 she took fourth place at the Mediterranean Games in Mersin with a new personal best of 1.87 m. A month later she was fifth at the Junior European Championships in Rieti . In 2014 she started at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and finished fourth there. She would have qualified for the European Championships in Zurich , but decided not to compete in order to prepare for the next season.

In 2015, Kallenou qualified for the U23 European Championships in Tallinn , where he finished seventh in the final with 1.81 m. With her new personal best of 1.93 m indoors, Kallenou qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . In this she was eliminated with 1.80 m in the qualification .

In 2014 and 2015 she became a US college champion for the Georgia Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs of the University of Georgia and also won in 2015 in the hall. She is trained by Petros Kyprianou, who coaches numerous top athletes, including some Olympians. So far she has been the Cypriot high jump champion three times.
