Leopold Harris (born May 20, 1874 in Himbach ; died August 9, 1933 in Strasbourg ) was a German entrepreneur and in November 1919 police chief in Frankfurt am Main .

Life

Leopold Harris came from a Jewish family based in Himbach . In 1906 he moved to Frankfurt. He was married to Johanna geb. Brandes (born 1879 in Oberaula ), the daughter of the Jewish elementary teacher Moses Brandes in Oberaula.

He was a partner and owner of various smaller industrial companies in Frankfurt. After the end of the First World War was active in the formation of workers 'and soldiers' councils in Frankfurt and other cities. On April 23, 1919, Leopold Harris was appointed acting Police President of Frankfurt by the Workers 'and Soldiers' Council. However, the Hessian Ministry of the Interior declined the appointment of Harris. After the union leader Fritz Ehrler was proposed and confirmed by the government, Harris resigned on November 15, 1919 from his office.

Leopold Harris died on August 9, 1933 in Strasbourg and was buried in the Strasbourg Jewish cemetery in Cronenbourg (grave no. 1343).
