Gerhard Littmann

Gerhard Littmann (born June 24, 1910 in Marburg ; † September 24, 1973 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German administrative lawyer.

Life

Littmann studied law at the Philipps University of Marburg . On December 7, 1929 he was reciprocated in the Corps Hasso-Nassovia . When he was inactive , he moved to the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 1938 he was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD. In 1940 he passed the English interpreting exam. In the same year he was drafted into the Wehrmacht as an interpreter . After the war he worked as a legal assistant from 1945 and later as a lawyer in Marburg. On March 1, 1949, he was appointed to the Hessian Ministry of the Interior , where he last worked as a government director. Successor to Willy Klapproth in the Frankfurt am Main police headquarters since 1951 , he was unanimously elected Police President of the City of Frankfurt on April 28, 1952. During the riots over an election campaign event of the NPD on July 25, 1969 with at least five seriously injured people, in which the NPD protection department beat up left-wing counter-demonstrators, Littmann did not intervene on the grounds that he had seen nothing. At the time of the 1968 movement, the SPD Hessen disliked its dealings with the demonstrators of the Socialist German Student Union and the extra-parliamentary opposition . The disputes over the imperative mandate attracted nationwide attention. The sub-district convention in February 1970 called for his resignation. At the first municipal council meeting on July 13, 1970, under Mayor Walter Möller , it was decided to put Littmann into temporary retirement . On November 5, 1970, he resigned from the SPD. He then worked in the insurance industry in Cologne and from 1972 onwards for a Frankfurt forwarding company. He is the grandfather of Navi Rawat .
