Origin and family

Leopold von Malowetz came from a very old Bohemian aristocratic family , which was mentioned in documents as early as the 14th century, spread in many lines and differed from one another by the names of their castles as an addition to their names. The ancestral seat of all branches was the Malowitz castle fortress.

He was a son of Ernst Joseph († 1840) and grandson of Johann Joseph, who had acquired the title of baron for this branch of the family on February 14, 1781. The officer was married to Anna Mathilde (born July 18, 1830 in Hausambacher, † May 22, 1856 in Vienna), daughter of Hermann Eduard, Count von Attems Freiherr auf Heiligenkreuz , since May 27, 1855 . From this marriage came a daughter, Leopoldine (born January 30, 1856).

Military career

On February 12, 1826, the baron was taken home by his parents from his military education at the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt , but in 1828 he joined the cuirassier regiment of Crown Prince Archduke Ferdinand No. 4 and was promoted to lieutenant on October 16 . He came on 1 February 1832 as lieutenant to the Infantry Regiment Haugwitz no. 38, then the Cuirassier Hardegg no. 8, where he on 16 August 1839 captain second class, then on November 1, 1844 was advancing at that first class. In the same year he was granted the dignity of Imperial Chamberlain. In the role of Rittmeister, the baron began as a participant in the campaigns against Hungary . He rose rapidly in the ranking, was major on December 23, 1848 and lieutenant colonel on August 2, 1849 .

On July 1, 1854, Malowetz became a colonel and commander of Dragoon Regiment No. 4, Grand Duke of Tuscany . After his promotion to major general on November 1, 1859 (rank of May 27th of the year) he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Grand Ducal Tuscan Military Merit Order, 1st class . In 1864 he first became a brigadier in Timisoara , then in 1866 a cavalry brigadier in the 2nd Army Corps in Graz .

Malowetz retired on February 1, 1867 after being appointed Lieutenant Field Marshal ad honores and from then on lived in Prague.

1781: In blue a silver ( according to Meraviglia gold) horse with a flying mane and a red bridle that flies out from behind, facing upwards to the right and cut in the middle . The baron's crown rests on the shield, on which a crowned tournament helmet rises up. The above-described silver (gold) horse jumps out of the crown. The helmet covers are blue on both sides, covered with gold.
