Location of the municipality

Les Borges Blanques is a Catalan city ​​in the province of Lleida in northeastern Spain . It is the capital of the Comarca Garrigues .

Geographical location

The city is located about 20 kilometers southeast of Lleida on the A-2 motorway from Barcelona to Saragossa and on the N-240 national road between Tarragona and Lleida. It has a train station on the line from Barcelona to Lleida.

economy

Agriculture has traditionally been of great importance, especially the cultivation of olives , cereals , almonds and fruit . Today there is also a diversified industrial and service sector .

The olive oil produced in the region is in great demand around the world, especially the Arbequina oil . In the middle of the 20th century, almost all of this oil was exported to Italy and sold there as Italian oil or mixed in to improve its own products.
