Les Enragés (German: "Die Wütenden") is a French film drama with Fanny Ardant and François Cluzet from 1985.

action

The two petty criminals Marc and Laurent rob the sacrificial stock of a church and are now on the run. They run out of gas on their way through a rural area. To hide, they break into a villa. When Marc, who likes to put on makeup and wears a blonde wig, enters the bedroom, he recognizes from the numerous photos on the walls that the villa belongs to the film actress Jessica Melrose, and he faints from shock. While rough-legged Laurent looks around the house, Marc, who has adored Jessica for years and knows all of her films, puts on his idol's clothes and poses in front of the mirror in a skirt and high heels. When the phone rings, they clean up the mess they've made and hide in a guest room.

Jessica comes home that evening with her dog, a bandog named Attila, without noticing the presence of the men. While she is on the phone, Laurent and Marc befriend the initially barking Attila. After Jessica has removed her make-up, taken a couple of sleeping pills and went to bed, Laurent and Marc eat in the kitchen. In the stairwell, they then admire a painting that shows Amedeo Modigliani's Reclining Nude with Jessica's facial features. Marc then enters Jessica's bedroom, sits down on her and begins to kiss her and talk to her. Jessica wakes up briefly, but is so dazed by the pills that she thinks she is dreaming and falls asleep again.

The next morning - Jessica is doing gymnastics in the garden and finally discovers the uninvited visitor - Marc and Laurent take her hostage. She tries to hide and get help over the phone. When the two men discover her behind a curtain, Jessica hits Laurent with a candlestick. He pulls out his jackknife, but lets go of her when Jessica's housemaid Nadine arrives. To keep the appearance that everything is okay, Jessica should go to bed. Marc, clad only in a towel, pretends to be Jessica's lover in front of Nadine and lies down with her. They then eat breakfast with Laurent. Jessica, who previously tended Laurent's laceration in the bathroom and wrote a message to the police on a piece of cloth, tries to get the message to Nadine in secret. However, Laurent intercepts the message. Nadine, who is amused about Laurent's advances, drives away on her motorcycle. Marc has meanwhile done a few laps in front of the villa with Jessica in her car. When Laurent triumphantly shows Jessica's message to Marc, Marc gets out of the car and kisses Laurent. Jessica tries to escape with the car, drives down a slope and accidentally crushes her dog Attila. As she runs away, Laurent grabs her and knocks her out. A thunderstorm sets in, preventing Laurent from raping her. Conscious again and more desperate than ever, she begins to act out great theater for Marc, who is disappointed in her as an artist and drives her with Laurent's knife.

Back at the house, Jessica dresses up and plays the great movie star. She ensnares Marc and kisses him in front of a mirror. When she shows that she is ready to let Laurent close, she pulls out a pistol, which she had previously discovered in a drawer and pocketed as a precaution, and shoots wildly. Marc and Laurent flee the house. Jessica shoots her again. Injured, they try to drive away in Jessica's car, but do not get far. Laurent gets out and remains on the ground. Marc drags himself back to the house where he dies in Jessica's arms. In his wallet, Jessica finds an envelope with a lock of blonde hair and a photo of a blonde girl. She then takes off Marc's blonde wig.
