The Flügge lighthouse is in the southwest of the island of Fehmarn , a few kilometers west of the Fehmarnsund Bridge . The lighthouse is open to visitors and offers a wide view over the Krummsteert , the Fehmarnsund Bridge to Staberhuk - on the other side to Heiligenhafen and Großenbrode .

description

The Flügge lighthouse is identical to the Neuland lighthouse near Behrensdorf on the other side of the Fehmarnsund . The octagonal brick tower was surrounded with a red and white plastic cladding. From the early summer of 2009, the plastic panels were removed again and the masonry behind them renovated. In April 2009, significant deficiencies in the tower's stairs were found, and renovation was inevitable. On behalf of the Waterways and Shipping Office, the red and white panels were removed and the underlying yellow masonry repaired. Since autumn 2010, the tower has been made of yellow-red brick masonry, as in its original state.

Nautical

There is an orientation light in the lantern of the lighthouse. Its identifier is Ubr. (4) 20 s, i.e. groups of four interruptions every 20 seconds, which are generated by rotating diaphragms. A little lower down, another fire shines out of a window in the tower, which is a fixed fire, i.e. an uninterrupted fire. Together with the lower light Strukkamphuk, it designates the fairway for ships approaching the Fehmarnsund Bridge from the south-east as the upper fire Flügge.

technology

The Flügger fire was initially operated with benzene and later with liquid gas incandescent light. The conversion to electricity took place in 1954. Today a 400 W / HQI lamp is used as a light source in the lantern, a 250 W / 24 V halogen lamp is used for the top fire. The tower is connected to the public power grid, in the event of a power failure a diesel emergency power generator is available.

Postage stamps

With the initial issue date 6 June 2013, gave German Post AG in the stamp series Lighthouses a postage stamp worth 45 euro cents out with the image of the Flügger lighthouse. The graphic design comes from Professor Johannes Graf from Dortmund.
