Lewis MacDonald

Lewis Macdonald (born January 1, 1957 in Stornoway ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labor Party . He moved to the Aberdeenshire area with his family when he was ten .

Political career

Macdonald attended the Inverurie Academy . He then went to Aberdeen University and graduated with a Masters in History. He then did his PhD also at the University of Aberdeen. He then worked for the House of Commons Frank Doran before he found employment as a lecturer in history at the University of Aberdeen. In the following years Macdonald worked in the election planning of the Labor Party and again for Frank Dornan. For the first time Macdonald appeared in the British general election in 1997 to national elections. In his constituency of Moray , he was able to book the third highest number of votes for himself and thus missed the entry into the lower house .

Scottish Parliament

In the first Scottish general election in 1999, Macdonald ran in the Aberdeen Central constituency . He won the direct mandate in front of the SNP candidate Richard Lochhead . In the following years Macdonald held various posts in Parliament . Between March and November 2001, he was Deputy State Secretary for Transport and Planning, and immediately afterwards he was Deputy State Secretary for Business, Transport and Lifelong Learning until the end of the legislative period. He was succeeded by Alasdair Morrison . After defending his mandate in the 2003 general election , Macdonald was initially appointed Deputy Secretary of State for Business and Lifelong Learning. From October 2004 to June 2005 he then held the position of Deputy State Secretary for Environment and Rural Development and was then Deputy State Secretary for Health until the end of the legislative period. In the 2007 general election , he narrowly defended his direct mandate from Aberdeen Central. Although Macdonald was able to increase his share of the vote in the 2011 parliamentary elections , he was defeated by the SNP candidate Kevin Stewart . However, since Macdonald was also listed on the Labor Party's regional electoral list for the electoral region of North East Scotland in the top ranks, he received one of seven list mandates for the electoral region as a result of the election result.
