Lewis Nkosi
Lewis Nkosi (born December 5, 1936 in Durban , † September 5, 2010 in Johannesburg ) was a South African writer , university lecturer , journalist and composer .
biography
Nkosi began his career as a journalist with the in isiZulu appearing daily newspaper Ilanga lase Natal , before the beginning of the 1950s the magazine Drum changed. When he received a grant from the Nieman Foundation for Journalism to study at Harvard University in 1960 , he was forced to leave South Africa and was in exile until 1991 .
In the following years he was professor of literature at universities in Zambia , Warsaw , London , the University of California, Irvine and the University of Wyoming .
During this time he began as a writer and wrote stage works such as The Rhythm of Violence (1964), The Black Psychiatrist (2001) and We Can't All Be Martin Luther King . He has also published novellas such as Mating Birds (1986), Underground People (2002) and Mandela's Ego (2006) as well as numerous volumes of essays .
In 2008 he received the Order of Ikhamanga in silver.
