The Leyland Cub CU was a midibus that Leyland Motors produced between 1979 and 1987. Leyland built a Leyland Cub as early as 1931 and 1939 .
The chassis of the Cub CU was derived from the Leyland Terrier truck and was built at the Leyland plant in Bathgate , Scotland . It was available in three versions as CU335, CU385 and CU435, with the number indicating the wheelbase in centimeters . The standard engine was the 5.7-liter 6.98 NV diesel engine, optionally the throttled 6.98DV version.
Most of the cubs were built for local communities and charities. The bodies came from Wadham Stringer from Hampshire or Reeve Burgess from Derbyshire . However, in 1981 Lothian Regional Transport acquired 18 CU435s with a Duple Dominant Bus body and West Yorkshire Passenger 15 units with an Optare body. 1987 the Cub CU replaced the Leyland Swift .
