The Standard Atlas was a pickup truck that was produced under different names between 1958 and 1980.

Standard Atlas / Major and Standard 15/20 1958–1962

In 1958, the Standard Motor Company presented the Standard Atlas pickup truck as a complement to the delivery van built on the basis of a passenger car . Standard was thus in competition with British Motor Corporation, which offered the Morris J-Type and the Morris J2 , Ford with the Ford Thames 400E and Bedford , whose Bedford CA sold the best.

Initially, the Atlas had a payload of 10 cwt 510 kg or 12 cwt (610 kg). It was available as a flatbed van , minibus and also as a mobile home . The closed superstructures had sliding front doors, the flatbed truck had suicide doors hinged at the rear . As with the models of the competition, the engine, a 948 cc gasoline engine from the Standard Ten , was installed between the seats and the power was transferred to the rear axle. So equipped he was underpowered. In 1961, the Atlas Major followed with a 1670 cm³ gasoline engine. In order to fit this larger engine, the chassis had to be enlarged and the cab changed. In addition, the model series now got front hinged front doors. The 948 cm³ engine was replaced by a 1147 cm³ Otto engine.

For the 1963 model year, the Atlas Major was renamed Standard 15 and the Standard 20 was created with a new long wheelbase . The 20 received a 2138 cm³ gasoline engine, which was also used in the Triumph TR4 and the payload was now the 15 cwt (760 kg) and the 20 cwt (1020 kg). Optionally, there was now an OE138-2260 cc diesel engine with 44 kW (60 hp) from Massey Ferguson , which was also used in the Ferguson tractors.

It was offered as a Triumph Atlas on export markets such as Canada .

Leyland 15/20 1962-1968

Leyland 15/20

Since Leyland Motors had taken over Standard Motor Company in 1962, the model was renamed Leyland 15/20 in 1963 . So it came about that only the models produced in 1962 were sold as the standard 15/20. When Leyland Motors merged with the British Motor Corporation to form the British Leyland Motor Corporation in 1968 , production of the Leyland 15/20 and the Leyland 2-tonner was discontinued, as their market segment in the group consisted of the models BMC 350 EA , BMC 250 JU and their successors BMC J4 should be operated.

Leyland 15/20 India 1970–1980

When production in Great Britain ceased, the production facilities were exported to India , where Ashok Leyland continued to build the model from 1970 to 1980.
