As a two-time world champion and world record holder, Li Ping could not start in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . The reason was the decision of the International Olympic Committee to limit the number of participants in the Olympic Games. For this reason, China received only four starting places for its women's team to participate in the Olympic women's competitions in Beijing. By deciding to give China only four starting places for the women's team, the International Olympic Committee ensured that the best athletes in the world could not start in two weight classes.
