Also in the Football League Championship 2011/12 Bridcutt acted as a regular in the midfield of his team and missed only three league games. In 2012/13 the club moved into the play-offs as fourth in the table, but failed there prematurely with 0-0 and 0-2 at the later promoted Crystal Palace .

Sunderland AFC and Leeds United

On January 31, 2014 Liam Bridcutt signed a three and a half year contract with the first division AFC Sunderland and left Brighton after three and a half successful years. By the end of the Premier League 2013/14 season , he played twelve games for the club coached by his ex-coach from Brighton Gus Poyet . In 2014/15 he increased his stakes to 18 games. After he was not considered among the successors of Poyet, who was released in March 2015, Dick Advocaat and Sam Allardyce , Liam Bridcutt switched to Leeds United on November 26, 2015 on loan . For his new team, he completed 24 league games for the table thirteenth by the end of the 2015/16 Football League Championship .

In mid-August 2016, the second division announced the commitment of Bridcutt on a firm contract basis and equipped him with a two-year contract. The defensive midfielder, who had meanwhile been appointed team captain, broke his foot in mid-September 2016 and had to take a three-month break before he made his comeback in the EFL Championship 2016/17 on December 13, 2016 and made 25 league appearances by the end of the season . The team coached by Garry Monk spent a large part of the season on a play-off place, but ultimately missed out on the promotion round as seventh in the table.

On August 22, 2017, Bridcutt moved to league rivals Nottingham Forest and signed a contract valid until 2020.
