Liane Rödel

Liane Rödel - after marriage Liane Knappe - (born June 9, 1935 , † July 31, 2002 in Leipzig ) was a German table tennis player . She was one of the best players in the GDR in the 1950s and won ten national titles.

National successes

Rödel began her career at BSG Stahl Leipzig . In 1954 she moved to the BSG Einheit Ost Erfurt with their women's team she was GDR champion straight away in 1954/55. She later joined the SC Einheit Dresden . Here she was under the name Knappe from 1959 to 1961 three times in a row GDR team champions. Another station was the GISAG Leipzig association.

At the national individual championships in the GDR, Liane Rödel won another six titles. From 1955 to 1957 she was individual champion three times in a row. She won doubles in 1956 and 1957 with Ute Mittelstädt . There is also a mixed title in 1957 with Lothar Pleuse . She reached the final in 1953 in doubles with Astrid Horn and in 1958 in mixed with Lothar Pleuse.

In 1953 Rödel was ranked fifth in the GDR.

International appearances

Liane Rödel was nominated for participation in the 1953 and 1957 World Championships and the 1958 and 1960 European Championships . She left early.

Private

In 1958 Rödel married Bodo Knappe, the brother of the table tennis player Dieter Knappe , and then performed under the name Liane Knappe . In 2002 she died in a traffic accident.
