Dieter Knappe

Dieter Knappe (born December 30, 1939 in Frankfurt (Oder) , † April 5, 2002 ) was an East German table tennis player . He took part in the 1959 World Cup.

Career

Knappe began his career at the SC Lokomotive Leipzig association , to which he belonged until 1959. In 1956 he was GDR youth champion. In 1958, he was ranked eighth in the GDR rankings. At the GDR championships in 1958 he was third in doubles with Heinz Haupt . A year later he reached top places in all three competitions: third in singles and second in doubles with Dieter Lauk and in mixed with Christa Bannach .

In 1959, Knappe joined the BSG Stahl Blankenburg association. Here he was involved in the rise of the men's team in the association league in 1960, which was then the second highest division in the GDR. He belonged to this association until the end of his life.

In 1959 he was nominated by the table tennis association of the GDR for the individual competitions of the world championship in Dortmund. He was eliminated from the singles in the first round against Jaroslav Staněk (Czechoslovakia). In doubles he played with the Romanian Radu Negulescu . With victories over John de Korver / Frans Robers (Netherlands) and Joseph Demolin / Vojin Djordjevic (Belgium) they reached the third round, where they were defeated by Hungarians Zoltán Bubonyi / László Pigniczki .

For his services to the development of table tennis in the GDR, Knappe was awarded the gold pin of honor by the GDR table tennis association DTTV in 1981.

family

Knappe was married. His brother Bodo Knappe, a former football league player of the SC Einheit Dresden , was married to the table tennis player Liane Rödel († 2002).
