history

The namesake of the village is Karl Liebknecht

The village, which was first mentioned in a document in 1784 after the annexation of the Crimean Khanate by Russia , was called Kytai (Ukrainian Китай , Crimean Tatar Qıtay , German Kitai or, more rarely, Kitaj ) until 1924 and was then renamed Libknechtiwka in honor of the German Marxist Karl Liebknecht .

After the Crimean Tatars emigrated to Turkey as a result of the Crimean War , the village was deserted and was re-established by German settlers in 1860. Shortly after the start of the Great Patriotic War , the Crimean German population was deported on August 18, 1941 , first to the Stavropol region , then to Siberia and northern Kazakhstan .
