When the offices were set up in the Prussian province of Westphalia, the municipality of Lichtendorf belonged to the Westhofen office in the Dortmund district . On April 1, 1887, she moved to the newly formed district of Hörde . When this was dissolved on August 1, 1929, Lichtendorf came to the Iserlohn district . On the occasion of the municipal and district reform in North Rhine-Westphalia , the previous municipality was divided on January 1, 1975. The part to the north of the A1 autobahn with 1.84 km ² and at that time 2812 inhabitants became a district of Dortmund. The southern part with 3.04 km ² and at that time 361 inhabitants was reclassified to the town of Schwerte.

In 1987 the Schwerter district of Lichtendorf had a total of 294 inhabitants.
